Alghero celebrates its patron saint with Catalan tradition, music, and culture
From September 12 to October 5, 2025, Alghero dresses up for the Sant Miquel Festival, the major event dedicated to the city’s patron saint. A packed calendar of events interweaves popular traditions, music, culture, and entertainment, strengthening the deep bond between the Coral Riviera and Catalonia. Preview: Gen Rosso at Lo Quarter
The festival will open on Friday, September 12 at 8:30 pm with the highly anticipated concert by Gen Rosso, the International Performing Arts Group that has graced the stages of over 150 countries with music of strong social and spiritual value. Rock, pop, gospel, and ethnic sounds intertwine in a free-entry event, which from the evocative Lo Quarter stage will showcase Alghero’s values as a City of Peace to the world. Tradition and entertainment in the heart of the historic center.
The festival revives the excitement of the Catalan Giants and the spectacular performances of the Castelleres, with the participation of the local group Los Mataresos de l’Alguer, the only active castellera company in Italy, joined by prestigious guests such as the Xics de Granollers, the Gegants de Peralada, the Colla Gegantera del Bisbalet, and the Ball de Pastorets d’Igualada. The key days will be:
Friday, September 26th, with the joint activity of the colles castelleres in the heart of the historic center.
Saturday, September 27th, with the grand parade from the port to Piazza Sulis, concluding with the traditional dances of the Catalan Giants.
Sunday, September 28th, with concerts in Piazza Sulis: Alghero and Catalan groups will take the stage, followed by the highly anticipated performance by the Barcelona band Els Catarres, a symbol of contemporary Catalan pop music.

The 32nd Notes of the End of Summer Music Festival, curated by the Akademia Cantus et Fidis (September 26th, 27th, and 28th).

The festival is also an opportunity to discover and experience Alghero’s cultural and natural heritage:
European Heritage Days (September 27-28), with guided tours and activities in museums and at the Anghelu Ruju Necropolis.

International sporting events such as the 25th Sardinia Open Wheelchair Tennis, the 20th Baia delle Ninfe (with the Italian Historic and Modern Car Regularity Championships), the Alghero Half Marathon, and the “SPORT & BEACH 2025” tour promoted by Gazzetta dello Sport.
Religious Celebrations
On September 29th, the day dedicated to Saint Michael, the city celebrates the most heartfelt moments of religious tradition with Holy Masses in the Cathedral (at 7:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 6:30 p.m.), followed by the Solemn Mass presided over by the Bishop and the evocative procession through the historic center accompanied by the A. Dalerci Band.
The 2025 Sant Miquel Festival is funded by the Sardinia Region – Tourism Department pursuant to Regional Law No. 7 of April 21, 1955, “Provisions for Events, Propaganda, and Tourism Projects”), Art. 2/C – Program of Entertainment Events, and the Salude & Trigu Program promoted by the Sassari Chamber of Commerce. It is organized in collaboration with numerous local organizations and associations.
